Bebe had been using a costly third party service to maintain its eCommerce site, and decided to move this process in house to decrease costs and gain the ability to easily update the site. Its small IT staff required the ability to maintain web content with limited technical staff involvement. The retailer wanted to enhance the site's functionality and product offerings, as well as increase its tracking and reporting capabilities. Bebe asked Acquity Group to develop a plan to optimize its eCommerce tool and help it better manage and support the site in house.
Acquity group performed an analysis on the company's existing architecture, and found that the existing outdated eCommerce technology was inhibiting it from reaching its goals. A roadmap was developed to meet these goals. The company approved the strategy and gave the go-ahead for Acquity to implement the improved eCommerce platform, which included both new hardware and software. The Acquity Group team automated the transfer of product and pricing data from the company's back-end retail system, and greatly eased the content management process.
Bringing the eCommerce site in house reduced bebe's ongoing costs of hosting and maintenance by more than 40%. Automating the process of introducing new products online reduced the time it took to launch new products, helping bebe speed up the product and sales cycle. In addition, the optimized site gave the retailer the ability to reorganize products online and change the site's navigation without utilizing IT resources, further saving the organization money.
